The siege of Tobruk lasted for 241 days in 1941, where Allied defenders; mainly consisting of the Australian 9th Division, held out against multiple Axis attacks. Nazi propagandist 'Lord Haw-Haw' derisively referred to the garrison as the "rats of Tobruk". The Australian defenders reclaimed the name as a badge of pride.
