"People mock the Varulev, you know. Bunch of peace-loving morons, weak as chips. They change their tune when they meet an Øksman."
The Varulev Øksman are the loyal lumber workers of the Empire, and are the last surviving remnants of their life under tyranny.
During the time when the forefathers of the Varulev where crushed beneath a tyrants heal, the task of lumber work was often treated as a punishment.
Forced out into the freezing wilderness of the continent now known as 'B' with barely any clothing, and given a quota that was near impossible to fill...few souls made it.
However, the one's that did, those who pushed through with unbending will, slaying the trees and hauling them home, were praised as heroes.
After the founding of the Empire, the Øksman continued in their work, a people that had grown so used to the cold that they refused to change their way of life.
And so, they continue, though now much better equipped and far safer. Each Øksman carries next to nothing, so their axe acts as the protection and safety equipment that they need.
An Øksman's axe, called an Element-carver, can reform it's head with a different elemental property, depending on the Øksman's needs.
If they need to clear snow, the head can reform as fiery red to melt away the path before them .
Also, though fires are rare in the snow-covered hills, the head can glow a brilliant blue and release a beam of frost from it's blade that instantly extinguishes the fire in question.
