And so the oni military government got to work finding funds and materials for what would become the Oyashima-class battleships, named for the empire itself. Surely, this hubris beyond hubris would not come back to bite any imperial foxes in the tails!
There has always been a divide in military theory between the oni warrior class and kitsune ruling class of Oyashima. Like any good warrior, the onis like weapons that work when you need them. The kitsunes, however, believe a weapon should be a statement about its user. And oh boy, is the Oyashima-class a statement about the foxes. When the dust had settled, the foxes provided plans for a battleship that was, on paper, second to none. But was it the ship the empire really needed? The oni military government criticized the design as a resource hog consuming far too much for what it provided, a slow and heavy showpiece that would never arrive to the battle in time if it could afford to leave the dock at all, an icon of arrogance that served no real purpose but to impress others. One wonders if they were criticizing the ruling class as well.
The die was cast, however. Oyashima would build the Oyashima.
