The Writing of the God is a story by the argentinian writer J. L. Borges. In it, an Aztec priest (embodying prehispanic cultures as a whole) is incarcerated with a jaguar by the Conquistadors. Many years pass, and trying to remember a magic sentence given by the god Qaholom, he recalls all his knowledge, memorises the patterns on the jaguar's fur trying to find a clue in it.
