Day 46: A Day with Brute It was only the beginning of would be a long, and exhausting campaign. The planet was beautiful when we arrived, but all that was once glorious had been destroyed in a matter of weeks. All that was left was mud and the footprints we left behind on our patrols. It wasn't a recon patrol either, but rather a one to find survivors of the overnight bombing. Needless to say, we didn't find any. We were depleted on not just supplies, but men too. The customary patrol would've included 12 men, but instead it was just the two do us today. A mudtrooper they called "Brute" and I. The search was quite pointless, just a way to pass the time. Brute didn't talk much. He may have had a tough name, but his hand clenched his blaster as if every second we spent in no man's land would be his last. We got back and the captain did a headcount. 3. There were 3 of us left. The captain wasn't even a true captain, but as a Sergeant he had the commanding role after all the officers had been killed. If I was sure of one thing, it was that my experience in Mimban hasn't been what I expected, or what I was told. "It would be fun" they had said "Explore new planets" they said "Find your place in the Galaxy" they had told me. It's safe to say sitting next to Brute in a trench made for a couple hundred men, wasn't exactly my idea of "find your place in the galaxy".
