Mk II Grenade

An updated version of my original 2008 / 2010 LEGO replica; the iconic Mk II is an American-made, WWII-era fragmentation hand grenade.

In this iteration, I used the keychain ring element to recreate the pull-out safety pin, and a minimal stud connection atop the detonator allows the ‘spoon’ to easily pop off when the grenade is ready to throw (see Image #2). The dimensions of the MOC are much more precise in this update, with finer tapering of the grenade body and fewer exposed studs.

As with many of my other life-size weapon MOCs, I used a mixture of older Dark Gray / newer Dark Bluish Gray elements to simulate a weathered metallic look. The official LEGO rubber band, in yellow, signifies (by US Army regulation) that the weapon is High Explosive.

While I greatly enjoy building new things, it sure can be satisfying to go back and revisit the same subject material, especially when one is going for maximum realism within the limits of the construction toy… with all the new parts and building methods now available, it’s exciting to see the possibilities only grow!
